I have used the 1079 for 2yrs and I have caught Racoons, Cats, and Opossums. The first trap that I got worked so well that I bought 4 more at our local Farm and Home,I love the way that it is constructed and how safe it is for the animal and the person.
Great trap!June 19, 2012
We had a raccoon getting into our trash cans, and the neighbor's, for weeks. I picked up the B1079 trap, set it out on flat ground with a chicken wing for bait, and found it empty but snapped shut the next day. Next night, I set it up on top of 2 pieces of 4X4 scrap wood, so that the back half was teetering on the brink of tipping, and threw another chicken wing in the back. That worked great - 2 nights in a row I got a raccoon, they must have been the only 2 in the neighborhood, because nothing got into our trash again. I figured the animal would panic if the trap tipped, and set the mechanism off running for the door, and that seems to be what worked for me.
Model 1079 WorkedJune 05, 2012
I bought Model 1079 from HD on Mon. at noon and caught a young groundhog by 6:00PM that evening. Now I'm baiting for big mama. I used cantalope and it worked great.
It worked!January 19, 2012
I've used this trap before, to catch a feral cat at my grandmothers, but this week I needed to catch my own house cat. He's strictly indoors, but ran off last week. I reported him missing at all local shelters and animal hospitals, as well as several businesses. Also created a stack of flyers with his photo and my phone number, and posted them all over the area.
In the end, it was the Havahart trap, baited with his regular cat food, that did the trick. I found him just two hours ago, unharmed but a bit hungry and thirsty. I'm very happy to have the Havahart trap!
Easy CapturesOctober 05, 2011
I bought a 1079 trap a few days ago to capture a pesky raccoon for a neighbor who insists on feeding his cat outdoors. I baited the trap with a piece of tortilla spread with honey. Three hours later, I had a raccoon. I had two dry days after that, when the bait was gone but no critter was inside, so I then tucked the same bait UNDER the trap, right behind the trigger plate, and caught four more, smaller raccoons on consecutive nights. Apparently the smaller ones could reach through the mesh to get the bait if I left it on the floor of the trap or hanging from the top, but they couldn't figure out how to get it out from under the trap, so they went inside. Mission accomplished!

Got that stray cat! Works great and no more "visitors". Now a friend is doing the same.
Great Company Support !November 26, 2010
I live in the a small KY town in the country... Yes we have wildlife all around us, especially if you have pets to feed. I had coons , opossums and wild cats that became a problem for us. I purchased five medium sized Havahart traps to help relocate these animals.. After catching 29 coons , 39 cats and 9 opossums the first year... I noticed that the coons were tearing up my traps as fast as I could fix them.. I contacted Havahart to help me find replacement parts for my traps....Instead of finding replacement parts for me they sent me a replacement trap at first then about three days later I received the replacement parts to repair my other traps......At no cost to me ! It doesn't get any better then that.... I don't expect this to happen everytime but, they can expect me to be looking at buying my next traps with the Havahart Brand name on it.
Note....This year I'm have already caught another 22 coons ,1 skunk, 4 cats and 6 opossums.... Around my yard.
Great company to deal with and it's American made ! Soupy in Western KY
Success!!August 16, 2010
The neighbors and I have been frustrated and annoyed by several feral cats that come around and kill the birds in the neighborhood. I used the Havahart live trap and relocated five of them within the last three days. Saw some birds on the ground this morning, for the first time in awhile. Trap is easy to use and sturdy. It does what it is supposed to do.
what service!July 29, 2010
Great trap...and greater service~! My trigger finally broke for unknown reasons after years of use...i called to order another....and these folks are mailing me one immediately...FOR FREE! Who ever heard of such service?! WOW! Do i recommend Havahart? Bet your beasties!
Highly recommendedAugust 14, 2009
After paying a professional trapper several times to remove nuisance skunks, racoons, etc., the trapper showed me how to safely use a Havahart and suggested bait. Using the 1079 I have removed and relocated a couple of dozen animals including skunks, raccoons, 'possums, and one squirrel.
It is important to release the pest animal far, far away! If possible, across a wide river from where you trapped it. A lot of pest animals are territorial and will return in a day or two.
Peanut butter seems to work well for raccoons, skunks, and opossums; it doesn't interest cats.
Works wellMay 03, 2009
Tried first time with lettuce and carrots, caught a groundhog, release 5 miles away across a bridge. trying to catch the next one but seems that squirrels get caught a lot :), then we'll move on top a racoon next door
Recommended by wildlife biologist : Great for raccoons and groundhogsJanuary 13, 2009
This trap is great to catch raccoons and groundhogs. - Strongly built -Offers very few injury risks to the animal -Easy to carrywith the animal inside, even on uneven forested terrain, it won't open in your hands and release the animal -Doesn't snap shot empty from strong rains easily -If not damaged, will not allow the animal to free itself if left in the cage for several hours
Excape of the Raccoon!September 28, 2010
The cage I bought was great the first coon it cought. But, the second one broke the weilds at the base of the cage. So, I rewired it and caught a small one. The best thing is Haveaheart sent me a new cage. This company stands behind this product. Thanks again Haveaheart.
catching crittersJuly 26, 2010
We bought this to trap the giant woodchuck that was destroying my garden. We haven't caught him but also haven't seen him for a while (since foxes took up residence nearby). But we have caught three skunks accidentaly in the last month. I actualy caught TWO at the same time this morning. Letting skunks go is an experience but this trap obviously works well. It comes down to what is around and wants your bait.
Better construction requiredMay 18, 2009
Problem is Opossums and Raccoons came through the Cat Mate cat door on our screened in porch and eat the cat food. The door opening is 5½” x 5½”. The Model 1079 trap caught a young raccoon on the first night. At midnight, no coon; at 6:30am the coon was in the trap.
Trap worked well, BUT – this young coon had removed the carrying handle and the accompanying claw guard metal plate from the cage. The plate was lying beside the cage and the handle was part in & part out of the cage. I was able to retrieve the handle, which I connected to the back of the cage, and with that and by grabbing the front of the cage over the door with my other hand, I was able to move the critter. (Always wear heavy leather gloves when handling cage with animal inside.)
After a 5 mile drive, I was able to release this raccoon without difficulty, using a wooden rod to hold the door open per instructions. It was successfully relo-cooned to a new wooded area.
