Had a large number of chipmunks creating a problem digging under my foundation...tried using another company's trap and chipmunks ate the bait but didn't set off the trap. Then used the Havahart Model 0745 X-Small 1-door trap...what a great trap...have caught 5 chipmunks in the last 6 days and counting...the trigger design is superb and the best on the market.
Great Trap!September 26, 2012
Your Xsmall 1 door trap caught the rat that's been destroying electric cable for the past month. On the very first night I set it, it caught the culprit, a fat Wood Rat! Keep up the good work Havahart!
UnbelieveableJune 25, 2012
I've set it out 4 time and every time i caught a monster squirrel. They just cant resist the trap. I've been using sunflower seeds and it worked every time.
Great ProductMay 30, 2012
Our dogs were trampling the flowers searching for chipmunks so the chipmunks had to go! So far in one week I've caught 6 chipmunks and 1 squirrel. My husband didn't think live trapping would work, so he's impressed. I've been using bird seed and raisins for bait. I watched the video where I learned it's important to put bait in front of the trap itself as well as the trigger pan. Once I did that it's been non-stop activity. I'm so glad to have a humane solution that really works. Thanks!

This trap is easy to set and seldom fails to catch an intruder. I use peanuts in the shell to catch squirrels. One peanut two or three inches into the trap and three more at the back. Works every time.
A Squirrel a DayApril 20, 2012

Squirrels in the attic! The landlord brought over the Havahart Xsmall 1-Door. Two hours later squirrel #1 was captured. Unfortunately the landlord didn't return until the following day. Someone had released the prisoner. Dang squirrel lovers. Over the next three days three squirrels were captured and relocated to a county park 15 miles and one river crossing away. I had never heard a squirrel swear before, but I'm pretty sure if I could understand squirrel-speak I would have been offended. They obviously were not aware of the alternatives to live traps or they would have surely been thanking me for inviting them to participate in the relocation program.
Worked as AdvertisedDecember 20, 2011
I had a digger squirrel in the walls of my home and nothing I did would catch it. I bought the Havahart trap and within two days I caught the little fellow. I then took it for a nice long ride and released it up in the mountains. Your trap worked exactly as advertised. Many thanks.
Very effective!July 30, 2011
Chipmunks have been eating the carefully tended tomatoes I planted in the spring. I've been using your traps for the past 2 days and have caught 5 chipmunks. Now maybe I can eat some of the tomatoes myself!
Chipmunks be gone!!May 22, 2011
We bought the Chipmunk single door live trap and within three days we caught 4 chipmunks using the recommended apple and peanut butter bait. It was great to finally get rid of these guys. They've been digging up our gardens and building nests in the garage and boat, as well as eating the boat's stryofoam insulation. We released them across town and reset the trap near other runways and burrows. Sometimes we caught the next one within a couple of hours after the prior one. We were careful to handle the bait and trap with paper towels so that our scent wouldn't be left on the trap.
works wellDecember 22, 2010
My cat keeps catching and releasing rats in the house. Sometimes I can keep them in a box, but I decided a trap might be easier. So I picked up this model at the local feed store to try out on the rat hiding behind the refrigerator. Baited it with a dollop of Trader Joe's peanut butter on a candy wrapper pushed all the way to the rear of the trap. Put the baited trap into a grocery bag on the floor near the frig. Took only a couple of hours, I heard the trap tripping, and I had my rat. Released her outside and all is well again. I highly recommend this trap.

I trapped seven squirrels and two small opossums the first few weeks! This is a wonderfully effective and easy to use trap. I bait with peanut butter. I’m 65, female, and live in a large oceanside city.
ChipmunksJuly 04, 2010
We have the 2 door model- caught 18 chipmunks over the last month or two. Works great- don't even bait it anymore- chipmunks just walk in smelling all their friends previous trips. Or is it their own smell? Relocated about 2 miles away- but now concerned that we have trapped the same chipmunk 18 times as we should have relocated 5-10 miles away as they may come back. Hmmm... must be the trap's fault...
Chipmunk trapJune 21, 2010
This device works perfectly !! Have caught 7 chipmunks this spring and 4 squirrels. Relocated all to another area. Peanut butter does the job ! I really like the non-rusting aspects of the trap. Helps keep it clean.
Catching ChipmunksJune 15, 2010
Reviewer: Uncle Crapper
This trap has been flawless. Trapped 11 Chipmunks so far without any problem. Peanut butter & shelled sunflower seeds for bait. There probably could be just a bit more space behind the trip pan for the bait so the animals couldn't reach the bait from outside the trap.
Update. Works Amazingly!April 02, 2010
UPDATE: I have recently had a problem with rats on my patio. So I put it out with dog food and have caught 5 rats and counting. The odd little rats are gray with a white under belly and are about 8 inches long. I normally shot rats with my air rifle but the rats came inside so I have to trap them. This trap is the best for any rat or chipmunk problem.
AMAZING TRAP!March 21, 2010
I just caught an enormous full size rat in this trap, that would not go into any other trap! After a year of trying, I'm so happy. The rat is relocated, not close to people, and out of here at last!
I used peanut butter on the back of the bait tray, with pineapple stuck on top. (the peanut butter acts as the glue to hold it on.) You can use apple or granola bar stuck to the peanut butter, as well.
I will always shop with Havahart from now on, because they have great products and excellent customer service. They are people who care!
WONDERFUL PRODUCT!March 17, 2010
Just received this in the mail today, baited it immediately with a dab of peanut butter and pineapple on top. (on the back of the bait tray). Within 10 minutes, caught a young rat, (what I call teenage size), in my garage!
From experience, a dab of peanut butter and a piece of granola bar on top, works too. But none can resist pineapple!
Great trap! I'll most likely order more of them! And this is a wonderful, helpful, company compared to others I've recently ordered from. Stick with Havahart products!
Best Live Catch Rat TrapJanuary 30, 2010
This trap is the best. I have not caught any rats in it yet but plenty of small birds, so I know it will be ideal for rats. Now squirrels are a totally different thing for this trap. I set it out in the woods hoping for a rat but found I had trapped a large angry gray squirrel.
I was greatly pleased at first but at its release I realized it had bent the small metal door holding mechanism almost completely down. I managed to release the squirrel but now the trap will not work properly.
So for large gray squirrels I recommend the 24X7X7 model (which I had set out at the same time as this one).
But the trap is still a great design that is super sensitive and effective for rats, birds, and escaped pets. Definitely a must have for any pest controller.
Finally a Human TrapDecember 01, 2009
I am a proud owner of domestic rats. And I know that when setting traps for their wild cousins (they got into my shed) I am not putting something that can harm my pets and I love that your traps are humane. Also last week when I had an escape while cleaning out my rat cage the trap came in handy. It didn't harm my baby and I got her home in her cage safe and sound. Thanks Havaheart!!!

I have more wildlife in my back yard than most people can find while on safari. And most of what resides in my yard is in someway detrimental to the extensive work that I have personally landscaped. Squirrels, possums, skunks and raccoons, to name a few, are abundant, and wreak havoc. Solution? Havahart - 0745! Every year, just when I get the major problem of the squirrel population under control, chipmunks take charge and dig up every bulb that's close to the surface. The 0745 trap is exceptional for trapping these tiny terrors. NOTE: The 1020 trap is adequate, but chipmunks travel nearly at the speed of sound when alerted, so the 0745 is a MUST HAVE for optimal results. Dare I say, 100%?
These traps are #1August 09, 2009
I just wanted to take time to share the great success that I have had with the havahart traps. I just got the 0745 to catch an elusive pack rat who ate the bait off of every rat trap we set and didn't even snap it. First night -got him! Second night another one. With my bigger model I have caught porcupine, raccoon, and skunks-all on an empty tuna can for bait.

I bought the model 0745 and I'm amazed at how many chipmunks I caught in such a short amount of time. I thought I caught the whole family when I got to 7, then 8, in four hours of trapping time. However, I kept seeing them. I'm now up to 13 and I know I saw another. I think I'm catching every one on my street. The bait I'm using is peanut butter and bird seed. Fifteen minutes later CHIMPMUNK #14. WOW.
Best Roof Rat Catcher!December 10, 2008
I have several two-door rat traps and one of these single door traps. The two-door traps have only worked for young rats. This single door trap is the only one that catches adult roof rats. I find the two-door traps set off, with doors locked, but empty. Sometimes the traps are still open, but the bait is gone. Don't know how they do that! Just be careful to set the door straight, so it doesn't fall to one side and stick halfway down. Put the bait on the far side of the bait tray, so the rat or chipmunk has to step on the tray to reach the bait. I've used cat chow, trail mix, and chocolate chip cookie pieces for rats...they've all worked.
best I foundJuly 26, 2008
This trap is very effective for chipmunks. The trigger mechanism is very sensitive and I released numerous sparrows as I trapped the chipmunks (used bird food as bait, because the chipmunks were feeding mainly on it)
Great trapJune 10, 2008
This trap worked great, we had a chipmunk in house for a week or 2 and got this trap and it was only an hour and a half before he found the trap and trapped himself inside.
Frustrated!!!November 12, 2008
For more than a week I have been trying unsuccessfully to trap the critter(s) now residing in my garage. Chipmunk has been seen on several occasions, and I also suspect a VERY smart mouse. Bait has been sunflower seeds, and each morning the bait is gone, the trap door has dropped, and the trap is empty. Gotta be a mouse, yes? Well, not two feet away is a mouse trap baited with peanut butter, and nothing has touched it in two weeks. Tomorrow I'm covering the trap with 1/4" mesh hardware cloth, so if it's a mouse HE IS MINE. Will let you know how this saga ends...
Overall great buy!June 15, 2008
When correctly placed and baited, this trap is very effective. The only problem I encountered was the sliding door doesn't fall if it is tilted to the right, even when the trigger is released. So when setting this trap, you should tilt the door as far as possible to the left, but that may be exclusively my trap. I used apple slices, in hopes of catching a squirrel, but I caught a rat instead, it was very exciting. I enjoy catching and releasing little critters.
