Tips for a Colorful Container Flower Garden

A container flower garden can be quite colorful and beautiful, whether it’s on a porch under cover or on an open patio. The trick is to choose flowers for a container flower garden that will thrive in planters, hanging baskets, and flower boxes.

  1. When you choose plants for a container flower garden check that the conditions and position you plan for each plant is suitable.

  2. Annual flowers add instant color to a container flower garden, but remember that you will have to replace them regularly.

  3. Most flowering plants in a container flower garden, including primulas, violas and petunias, need to be watered carefully. Allow the surface of the soil in your container flower garden to dry out before you water again. If using coco liners for your container flower garden, remember to check plants water needs daily.

  4. Most foliage plants, grown alongside flowers in a container flower garden for their leaves and deep green color, like to be watered often, so the soil is perpetually moist (not wet).

  5. Misting plants in your container flower garden will increase the humidity. But don’t mist those that are positioned in direct sunlight, which can result in leaf burn.

  6. Organize your container flower garden by placing several different species of the same color together for effect, or choose one species in two or three colors for contrast.
