Holiday Decorating

The holidays are upon us, and one of our favorite things about the holidays is that we have another reason to add some decorations around the house. Decorating the house and the yard is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. We here at Avant Garden Decor are always on the lookout for fun, creative ways that we can decorate while keeping an eye on the budget, and the holiday season is no exception. Holiday Plant Decor

A nice simple, way to "dress up" some existing decor is to add some lights. LED lights have become very popular, and because they don't radiate much heat, they are perfect for stringing
through a plant stand or planter. Add some garland or ornaments for a quick and easy holiday decoration. Try using clear lights with a white Pointsettia for a more classic, elegant look.

No matter how well we pack our decorations when we put them away at the end of the season, we are bound to end up finding that some of those decorations get broken or dirty. Incorporating those broken ornaments into a plant can be an excellent way to reuse what might have otherwise been thrown away. Even those light strings with a few missing bulbs can be strategically placed to hide those bad lights.

PointsettiaThere are a variety of holiday-type plants that can be incorporated into your decor. Poinsettias, Euphorbia pulcherrima, are one of the most popular plants to decorate with during the holiday season. The bright, red color will add a pleasant, warming touch to your decor when the temperature outside is falling. Make sure your poinsettia does not get overwatered by using a pot with drain holes in it and storing it on a vinyl saucer. Make sure to keep it away from sources of cold air, such as windows or doors that lead to the outside, and your plant will survive long after the holiday season.

Decorating for the holidays does not have to be an expensive or complicated endeavour. By taking some spare decorations that you probably already have available, you can create attractive, dynamic decorations that will add wonderful holiday spirit to your house.
